A modest rear extension turned a closed-off kitchen into a bright open-plan family space, with skylights, navy cabinetry and a stone island.

The Brief

The owners had a separate kitchen, dining room and small back room. They wanted one connected space for family life and entertaining, with as much natural light as possible.
The Challenge
The challenge.
A load-bearing wall ran between the kitchen and the back of the house, and the existing floor levels didn't match. The party wall and the rear elevation also needed careful handling.
The Solution
The solution.
We installed steels to remove the dividing wall, levelled the floor across the new space, built a small rear extension to push the footprint out and added two roof lights for natural light. Inside we coordinated the kitchen fit, splashback tiling, electrics and decorating.
